Course Details:

You will study the following mandatory units:

• Create and maintain effective working relationships

• Customer care skills

• Deal with bookings

• Deal with the arrival of customers

• Maintain a safe and secure working environment

and the following optional units:

• Deal with communications and book external services

• Prepare customer accounts and deal with departures

• Maintain data in a computer system.

You will be taught both the Fidelio and Hotel Perfect computerised hotel reception bookings systems, which are widely used throughout the hospitality industry.

You will also take the following qualifications:

• Hospitality Awarding Body Certificates in Customer Service and
Conflict Handling

• C & G Certificates in Appearance and Grooming

• Key Skills qualifications in IT, Literacy and Numeracy

• NVQ 2 Food and Drink Service

Work experience is an integral part of this course. You will be required to work in local hotels on certain days during the second and third terms where your NVQ Level 2 assessment will be undertaken.

As part of the course you have a three month placement in industry which could be either in the UK or Europe. In addition to the main qualification you will have the opportunity to gain many other relevant qualifications including NVQs and the Foundation and Intermediate Food Hygiene.

International Baccalaureate

The International Baccalaureate (IB) represents a qualification of intellectual rigour and high academic standards focusing on international learning. It offers a two year course of study equivalent to 4 A Levels, designed for highly motivated and well organised students aged 16 to 19 years.

Set up in 1968 the International Baccalaureate organisation has successfully established a common global curriculum and university entrance qualification. The organisation has always been motivated by a vision of critical thinking and a desire to encourage international understanding.

Course Details:

The International Baccalaureate is a qualification equivalent to 4 A levels. It is well regarded by universities. The qualification centres around 6 subject areas:

• Arts and Electives (e.g. music, theatre arts, visual arts)

• Experimental Science (e.g. physics, chemistry, biology,
ecosystems)

• Individual and Society (e.g. economics, geography, history,
philosophy, psychology, eco-systems)

• Language A (a study of own language/English texts)

• Language B (French, German or Spanish)

• Mathematics and ICT

The exciting prospect is not only the breadth of knowledge on offer, but the opportunity to critically examine this in a Theory of Knowledge course. A 4000-word research essay is also undertaken which shows the interdependency of all the subjects studied.
