Duration: 1 Year, Full Time
What will I study?
This course is designed to give students a broad grounding in the knowledge and skills of the principles of art and design. The course will then enable you to develop your creative intelligence in art and design by working within a number of very diverse areas.
The course offers an opportunity for broad based study in art and design. The emphasis is on acquiring creative thinking alongside developing practical skills in 2D and 3D.  Drawing and contextual studies form a very important part of the work throughout the course and there will be regular visits to galleries which you will be expected to attend. As the course develops you will be taught to gain more independence in your studies.

Art & Design First Diploma (Level 3)
Duration: 2 Years, Full Time
What will I study?
The course is mostly practical with some written work required. You will study 8 core units which explore ideas and concepts, materials, processes and techniques, visual communication, drawing development and some historical and contextual understanding.
You will then study 10 other units which are taken from the following areas;
Photography, Graphic Design, Generic Design, Fashion Design, 3D Design, Fine Arts and Multimedia.
Within these you will learn various elements of ideas generation, the design cycle, managing client needs and audience expectations and exploring materials and methods in a range of practical assignments.
There will also be the option of a trip to Barcelona and/or other European city.
In addition you will be expected to complete an A level arts based subject from the range offered in the Art and Design Department.

Art & Design First Diploma (Level 3)
Duration: 1 Years, Full Time
What will I study?
There are 3 main stages - exploratory, pathway and confirmatory.
Stage One – Exploratory
Students have the opportunity to work across a range of art and design disciplines, including Fine Art (painting, sculpture and printmaking), Graphic Design, Textiles, Photography and 3D Design. Emphasis is placed on breadth of research, observing and recording information and development of skills and responses. Drawing is critical at this stage as a vital research tool. Media experimentation is also a key element of this stage.
Stage Two – Pathway
Students should begin to find their preferred location within art and design, using the experience, skills and understanding developed through the previous stage. They have the opportunity to experience specialist areas and consolidate their choice of a chosen pathway, building up a distinctive folio of work, in preparation for Higher Education interviews. Students should also gain confidence in independently generating, developing and presenting their work and ideas.
Stage Three – Confirmatory
At this stage of the course students work within their chosen specialism, developing and integrating their skills and understanding through a process of independent learning. Students are expected to take full responsibility for the direction of their work and their own learning. At the end of the course, students mount an exhibition of their work for the final assessment and awarding of grades.
